Amico "Cooch" Carmel

September 01st, 2017

HURON - Amico “Cootch” Carmel, age 96, of Huron, passed away Friday, September 1, 2017, and is again joined in heaven with his loving wife of over 60 years, Catherine.

Cootch led a long and wonderful life with many friends and family who will miss his wit and humor.  He was an avid golfer who played into his 90’s and had two hole-in-ones added to his golfing accomplishments.  He was a WWII navy veteran, and as a Seabee, he helped build landing strips for the war effort.  After the war, he lived in Mansfield and grew his family and was involved with Golden Gloves boxing.  He moved his family to Huron from Mansfield in the 50’s to help run the family business.  He ran the Anchor Inn for years which was later informally known as “Cootch’s” a very popular place for the young to congregate.  Later he went to work for Ford Motor Co. and retired from there after 11 years.  He led a very long and interesting life because he was full of life.  He will be sadly missed by all.

He is survived by two loving sons Dale (Theresa) Carmel and Bradley Carmel, both of Huron; two grandsons Brett (Theresa) Carmel, Huron, and Jonathan Gaydish, FL; one granddaughter Luanne (Pete) Mashari; four great grandchildren Mason and Madison Carmel, Huron, Lucas Koelsch, Berlin Heights, and Alyssa (Devin) Janssen, Michigan; five great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

At Cootch’s request, there will be no visitation and he wants all to remember him as he was.  A private graveside service for the family will be held at a later date.

Foster Funeral Home and Crematory, Huron, is in charge of the arrangements.
