Jane M. Gilbert

Jane M. Gilbert, 73, residing in Sandusky, passed away on April 2, 2024.

Jane was born January 24, 1951, in Sandusky, the daughter of James Ray and Martha Jane (Dete) Gilbert. She attended St. Peter Grade School and Huron High School. Following graduation, she moved to Columbus, attended nursing school, and worked at The Ohio State University Hospital.  She later moved to Cincinnati for graduate school in audiology, and then to a hospital in Minneapolis, MN where she specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with imbalance and dizziness. Prior to accepting a position at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, she obtained her doctorate. Following retirement in 2016, she moved back to Huron.  

Jane is survived by her five siblings, Molly (David) Rau, Bruce (Claire), Ted, Jim (Tim), and Paul, who live by the east, west, and southern coasts.  She has seven nieces and nephews, who are likewise scattered across the country. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, who had moved to a retirement center in Rochester shortly after her move so that she was able to visit them and provide assistance as she was able to.

Jane treasured the friends she made in kindergarten through the different places in which she lived. She was very sorrowful to lose three dear friends, Sally, Mary, and Diana, however, she maintained close contact with other friends; if not in person, then by phone and texting. 

She loved her dogs, the library, the Scripps National Spelling Bee, scrabble, and ethnic foods. She was also very fond of her uncle Joseph Dete and his family in Phoenix, AZ, as well as her cousins in Michigan.

A small private service will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church in Huron, where Jane welcomes the lighting of a candle on her behalf.
