Ilian M. Hammond

HURON - Ilian M. Hammond, 71, of Huron, Ohio, passed away on February 12, 2018 at Stein Hospice, Sandusky.

   She was born in Caracas, Venezuela on November 14, 1946 and immigrated to the United States at the age of 21.

   She studied at the Central University of Venezuela, at which time she met and married a Marine named Robert Hammond and came to the United States. She was a homemaker for many years, volunteered at St. Peter School in Huron, and eventually worked for the Huron City Schools.  Most of that time she was an aide in the Little Tigers Preschool.

   She is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Robert (Bob) Hammond; a son, Robert (Tammy) Hammond; daughter, lngrid (Troy) Ritzler; 5 grandchildren; sister lngrid; and numerous nieces and nephews.

   She was an individual who touched the lives of many, by inspiring them with her positive attitude. She was quick with an encouraging word.  She adored her grandchildren and extended family, endeavoring to stay involved in all of their lives.  She had endless energy and could often

be seen buzzing around Huron and Sandusky.  She loved movies, shopping, artwork, writing poetry, and gardening.  Her collection of elephants was unmatched.

   A funeral mass will be held Friday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter Church, 430 Main Street, Huron,  with Father Jeffrey McBeth officiating, followed by a luncheon in the church Gathering Space.
